1. First up, they're Manipuri.

Manipuri women have been kicking ass since FOREVER. Mary Kom, the one and only, was also Manipuri. She also congratulated the two on their record victory!

2. No, they're not related.

Apparently, in Manipuri, the name 'Chanu' is given to unmarried women. It is a form of the designation 'Ms.' There are many more sportswomen with the same name, like Ngangbam Soniya Chanu, Sanggai Chanu, Sushila Chanu and Tingonleima Chanu. 2 of them are national level hockey players and the third is a fellow weightlifter!

3. They've come a long, long way.

Sanjita hails from the Kakhing district and Mirabai from Imphal. They both competed in the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Sanjita even won the 48 kg category that year.

4. Their speciality is the clean and jerk event.

Sanjita lifted a total of 173 kgs on her way to the gold medal this year. Mirabai lifted 110 kg in Clean and Jerk and 196 kgs in Snatch.

5. They're young as hell.

How old do you have to be to be this awesome! Well, for most people, probably more than a couple centuries. Sanjita is 24 and Mirabai is, wait for it, 23. BRB, just having an existential crisis.
